Lower Level Management

Lower level American and Japanese managers have the most difficult job of communicating with their peers as they differ on two indicators -- TJ and FP.

A Japanese lower level manager is concerned more with personal relationships than an American lower level manager.

For an American lower level manager to communicate with his Japanese counterpart, he/she should emphasize:

  • Support of project by people, testimonials
  • Interest in his/her peer
  • Emphasize human benefits
  • Show how the project increases his/her adaptability, options
  • Time for his/her consideration
For a Japanese lower level manager to communicate with American peers, he or she should:
  • Emphasize logic, research
  • Make presentation in terms of lists, implementation plans, facts
  • Develop connections between facts
  • Then discuss human benefits
