Psychological type is a measure of personal, natural preferences. It is the operating system for an individual's interaction with others, themselves and data. The most well developed indicator of psychological type is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) which is founded on Jung's concepts of personality. Psychological type does not predetermined how an individual will act, but it does indicate preferences. It is a powerful tool for understanding individuals, teams, groups, organizations and cultures.

James H. Reynierse used MBTI to understand the differences between levels of management in American and Japanese companies. His findings shed some light on problems of communication between American's and their Japanese counterparts, and the differences between how American and Japanese companies reach decisions. This article summarizes and interprets his work.
